hestia8In my defence, my body was reacting violently to something I ate while this was on yesterday, so it wasn’t *all* my usual obliviousness.
(a fair bit of it was my usual obliviousness though, I'm not going to deny that)
So, here’s the thing: I had this tiny tiiiiiiiiiny bit of hope that the beginning of 1003 was going to reveal that Tariq wasn’t dead, but was just in a coma, and that they had wrong-footed us all (more on this later). Obviously, I was wrong. Bugger.
Cheerfully, yet another set of relatives on this show are asking the spies to stay the fuck away from the funeral. I always find this kind of depressing.
Erin is still hot.
Freezing the investigation into Tariq’s death just to let Harry and Calum do something unofficial is such nonsense.
I really am unsure about Dimitri this series. I know I *should* like him, but I just feel like there’s something lacking. And tbh I’m not convinced Max Brown is good enough to carry off being the main agent. He just doesn’t do angst very well, and while that worked last series, it’s not working for me now.
Soooooo before the new series there was a spoiler (which I cannot find now) about how Dimitri had to honey trap a young woman and he had a moral problem with this. And the idea that the honey trap itself was the thing he had a problem with just did not occur to me. I thought it was the ‘young’ part and I was expecting a nineteen-year-old or something. Which would have been intriguing. I was interested to see what they did with that issue, and then it turned out I just misunderstood.
I shouldn't bother with Spooks spoilers, ever. I just end up getting the wrong end of the stick.
(And I know that, judging by past evidence, I should be ALL OVER this plotline! I don’t know why it isn’t grabbing me)
Harry is still a dick. Sending her off to meet up with his ex and the mother of his illegitimate child for him. Seriously, people who are still shipping Ruth/Harry, why? Why do you want Ruth to end up with someone who treats her this crappily?
Sasha is still amazing.
First big thing I missed: the KGB killed Elena’s parents.
You do feel really bad for Natalie, watching this. Her brother’s an arse. At least she got to shag Dimitri.
On the rewatch, I am appreciating how weird Greer is and how Dimitri is trying to deal with him nicely.
I do want to know if Calum worked with Erin in whichever Section she was in before, or if he was new and she brought him in straight to Section D.

I love how they have loads of surveillance teams but they’re all offscreen.
Alice Krige looks amazing.
First time round I misheard ‘liked’ for ‘loved’ in this scene. Oops.
I still don’t get why Ruth gave Elena her real name.
“You can’t expect complete trust from a man like Harry. He can’t even give that to himself.”
Oh, Ruth, find yourself a decent man. Dimitri would probably sleep with you if you wanted.
Ruth’s outfit is very boring and plain in this episode.
I really do hope we get an explanation for WHY Jim Coaver is doing all this stuff.
Sometimes Calum REALLY looks like RPJ. And it is very distracting.

At which point between now and the end of the series is Sasha going to find out that Harry’s his Dad?
Between being on the grid and meeting Towers, Ruth puts a necklace on.
“I suppose you’d have to say that outside of work, my life has been…small.”
I wish it had turned out that Greer wasn’t the bomber and didn't know anything about it. It would have been funnier.
I do love how well Greer plays Dimitri in this episode. I just wish it wasn’t another one where the plot is moved along by the spies being rubbish.
Dimitri has absolutely no sense of self-preservation, does he?

I still don’t get the big deal about Dimitri breaking it off with Natalie. They’d been seeing each other a few days and had sex twice. Why did that require Erin writing a letter for him to send?
I also don’t get why Harry fucked off and left Ruth to explain about Coaver and the Gavriks. Twat.
