I have been catching up on TV in the last few days, so here is a quick update on what I have been watching:

Emmerdale: I have missed a few eps of this lately, but judging where the storylines are, it’d be more accurate to say I’ve missed the chance to yell at the TV. Hopefully it will pick up soon. Adam can fuck off, though.

Casualty: As I predicted a couple of weeks ago, Sam and Tom got together. Sadly I doubt there’s a likely /Dylan addition to the Sam/Tom.

Holby: OH MY GOD I hate the new doctor. OH MY GOD SO MUCH. We are clearly supposed to – he’s a lying, manipulative, drug-taking cheat who’s getting Eddi into more trouble with every episode – and it’s fucking working.

Vexed Series 2: I have no idea why I like this show as much as I do, but there is something enjoyable about it. And this series has Miranda Raison, which is always nice.

A Mother’s Son: I made it through the first episode, but the characters were incredibly irritating, I didn’t bother with the second.

Leaving: This was very odd. It’s an ITV drama in amongst a bunch of crime dramas, but it doesn’t seem to have a crime element. It just seems to be about a lady meeting a young guy and starting an affair with him (which is fair enough, obviously, I was just expecting a murder or two). Not sure I’ll bother with episode 2.

The Scapegoat: I’m currently halfway through this and it’s quite entertaining so far. I’m feeling for the guy who is the scapegoat, stumbling through someone else’s life. Especially as the someone else seems to be a bit of a bastard.

Good Cop: Well, I really enjoyed the first episode – excellent writing, excellent performances – but I have two main problems with the show (one of them is very trivial). One, the main character is called John Paul Rocksavage, which seems to be a bit over the top (told you). Two, I felt by the end of episode 2 things had moved on too quickly and John Paul had crossed over from being a 'good cop' rather too quickly. IDK. Maybe it's because I can just see where this is going to go.

Accused: Fuck me, this show is miserable. Great, but miserable. The first episode – with Sean Bean - was excellent, but since then it’s just been bleak and miserable and really very depressing. Don’t watch the Anne-Marie Duff episode if you’re feeling sensitive.

The Last Leg: This show was a comedy/chat show on after the Paralympics, and it’s worth watching because it’s very very funny. Also Zoe Smith’s (Team GB weightlifter) in one episode, and she’s the best.

The Bletchley Circle: Saving the best for last. This. Show. It’s perfection. Especially if you like The Hour. Or Scott and Bailey. Or Call the Midwife. Or watching really good television. The premise is wonderful – wartime codebreakers from Bletchley decide they’re going to solve a mystery because they’re better than the police – and the execution is just fantastic. The costumes, the characters, the cast – oh my gosh, I just really think you should watch it.
