Some thoughts on Hannibal

So, I have now watched series 1 of Hannibal, because kikishua kept wanting to know what I thought of it (after I had basically decided I wasn’t going to bother, so THANKS, KIKISHUA, also, you should totally watch Luther AHEM).

 Overall, I don’t have anything new or exciting to say, but the following things stood out:

Ø      Nobody (by which I mean the internet in general) seemed to think the fact that Jack Crawford is a total bastard was worth mentioning. I don’t really know why, because omg he’s a total bastard! Who cares if Will’s clearly, obviously going nuts, he’s helping solve crimes so let’s carry on!

Ø      On which note, poor Will. Jack on the the one side, Hannibal on the other – dude never had a chance.

Ø      I found the archness of it all quite off putting.

Ø      It has replaced Luther as TV Programme I Have Found Most Disgusting/Disturbing, so well done Hannibal team! Good work! I’ll just be over here throwing up.

Ø      Weirdly (or perhaps not, given the subject matter), there were a couple of very close similarities between Hannibal and Luther S3. Unfortunately I can only remember one of them right now (the killer under the bed) so my point doesn’t really work. Ah well.

Ø      As someone who watches a lot of crime tv, it seemed odd to me that none of the trained crime investigator people seemed to go ‘hm, the sequences of events we keep encountering are super convenient’ until the last two episodes, but I get that’s for plot reasons.

Ø      I didn’t really enjoy it until episode 7, where things did click for me somehow. To be honest, I’d have chucked it in after episode 1 if I hadn’t said I’d watch it. I’m still a bit iffy on bothering with s2.

Ø      Having said that, Hannibal’s lack of subtlety is hilarious and should continue forever. Cannibalism puns ftw.

Ø      Also I would eventually like to see the point where everyone realises what Hannibal’s been feeding them.

Ø      I’ve been trying to think of something to say about Hannibal seeing as it’s his show, but I found him quite blank. I get that’s international. Person suit and all that.

Ø      I’m not sure I really liked any of the characters that much, which again I think is intentional, but I do find it harder to watch shows where I don’t really like anyone.

Ø      Before I forget, Eddie Izzard, please stop trying to do American accents for an extended period of time. 

Ø      The lures in the last episode OMG NOOOOOOOOO
