Being Human rambling
11 March 2012 11:18So! Being Human Series 4! We’re only coming up to the sixth episode, I’m not that behind.
HAHAHAHA
Ok, so, at the end of the last series, Mitchell collapsed under the weight of his own angst (look, I love Mitchell and I love angst, but it was taking over everything), George killed him, and I was cheerfully bobbing along not interested in fanworks of any kind (it sounds weird to say this – as I will happily read fic/watch vids for things I’ve never seen – but the world of BH always felt complete enough to me).
As the fourth series opens, Nina has been killed offscreen (gaaaaaaah, yes alright this isn’t surprising, but still, Nina), George is going batshit, and Annie is wondering what the hell to do about it all and if anyone will give the baby a name (considering I stole Pudding from No Angels, I’m reserving the right to use Splodge for someone’s future child).
I’m going to presume if you’re reading this you’ve seen the series so far so I don’t need to recap it. Also this means I can just ramble and not worry about making sense, because I get incoherent very quickly when it comes to BH.
• Hal. Haaaaaaaaal. Okay, yes, clearly my complaints about angst above are ridiculous, considering that Hal seems to be in competition with Mitchell for how much angst they can have about killing people. He’s been dry for 55 years, he’s given himself crippling OCD to stay that way (which includes press-ups, tyvm for that writers), and now he’s stuck with Tom and Annie when he used to have a shield. It was red.
• Pearl and Leo. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Pearl and Leo. So sweet. I’m so glad they got to go together.
• Tom. Tom Tom Tom Tom Tom. They keep making Tom look sad AND THAT’S NOT FAIR. It just makes my heart go squish. Yes I know Michael Socha’s very good at it, but AAAGH. Also. “I like your tights. You look like a bee and I like bees.”
• ANNIE. As ever, I’m not as satisfied with Annie’s development as the rest of it, because she keeps forgetting that she has power and can get rid of ghosts/kill vampires (I wouldn’t mind if they said she could only do it occasionally because of using up her power, but that’s not the way it’s framed), but I still absolutely love her and I adore Lenora Critchlow.
• Hal and Tom and Annie having to get along and work together and being tested all the time, I love it.
• ADAM! Ha. “He’s not the nemesis, he’s far too much of a knob for that.” Alright, he can get a bit tiresome, but in small doses I find him amusing.
• The one-episode characters are always so well-done you can’t see the join, if that makes sense. They just work as people in that situation. I particularly loved Yvonne (the succubus) and I was so happy that she and Adam stayed together in the end.
• CUTLER. I am trying to be rational about Cutler because this could all go SO WRONG and I could end up being utterly disappointed, but oh, Cutler. I am blaming a good chunk of this on Andrew Gower, because he’s generally excellent in all the stuff I’ve seen him in (oh look, an excuse to post that Frankenstein’s Wedding video again). Obviously it’s a bad thing that someone’s trying to expose werewolves (especially when they’re as sweet as Tom) but I’m glad that someone’s looking at tactics.
• Future!Potential!Eve. I was under the impression we were certain this was Eve, but once again my brain had managed to half-remember things and be sure about something that hasn’t happened yet, so apparently not. Oops. Still, she’s Eve, right? Unless it’s all a double bluff and there’s another war child somewhere else (possible but probably a bit late in the series for that)
• I don’t know if another series is planned or whatever, but I’d really appreciate it if no-one left this series. Thanks.
• Again, this completely contradicts what I said above (and I don’t know why), but if anyone has any fic recs focusing on series 4, they will be oh so gratefully received. :D
And it’s on tonight! Woo.
ETA: whoops, forgot the video (the whole show does seem to be on YT):

2012-03-11 12:10 (UTC)I love your comments on the season so far, and agree with every single one of them! Yvonne was brilliant. ^_^
I don't know what to think about the warchild. It seems like she *is* Eve - she seemed to have a kind of loving memory of Annie and remorse about her 'death' - but why she'd want herself killed, I do not understand. Future-possibly-Eve is not afraid of self-sacrifice, though, so she'd probably not mind having herself killed as a baby if she believes that the war is actually caused by her, not ended by her? ... I can't wait to find out.
